Lawyers assume ultimate responsibility
for their work, but they often delegate many important preparatory
tasks to paralegals. Paralegals and legal assistants continue
to assume a growing range of tasks in legal offices and perform
many of the same tasks as lawyers. For example, paralegals
help lawyers prepare for trials, closings, hearings, and corporate
functions.
The paralegals identify appropriate laws,
judicial decisions, and legal articles that are relevant to
assigned cases. Paralegals may prepare legal arguments, draft
pleadings, motions to be filed, and assist attorneys during
trials. They are responsible for the organization and maintenance
of important legal files and documents.
