Biography
After high school graduation, I joined the U.S. Army as a Medical Specialist. I spent 8 years active duty. Upon getting out of the military, I received a certificate in Medical Office Management. I worked as an Assistant to the Assistant Comptroller for DaVita,Inc in Tacoma, Washington. When I moved back to Peoria, I started working as a Patient Account Representative for Midwest Kidney Centers. The company was sold, so I started working at Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as a Medicare/Medicaid Biller. After having my son, I decided to go back to school and chose Midstate College and received my Associate Degree in Health Information Technology. I then got a job at Pediatric Cardiology as a Patient Accounts Representative. I sat for the CCS-P exam and received my credentials. I was then offered a supervisor position with Wexford Health Sources working at Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln. One of the requirements for this position was the RHIT, so I sat for this exam as well and received my credentials. I was the Medical Records Supervisor, but really wanted to do more work in coding. So, I accepted a position at Methodist Medical Center as an Outpatient Coder. I also started teaching at Midstate College part time. I was recently elected as Secretary for CIHIMA for the 2010-2012 term. My future goal is to complete the Cancer Tumor Registry Program thru AHIMA and earn my CRT credentials. I would really like to work in the Cancer Registry field.
